Welcome to Conflict Catcher v3.0.4, the very latest in Startup File management and conflict identification. This version incorporates a number of enhancements, some of which are not covered in the manual. Please keep these changes in mind as you read the manual.
Conflict Catcher is the most powerful tool available to help you solve your startup/init problems. There are cases in which Conflict Catcher may not be able to help you. Please see "Problems not related to Startup files" below for these cases.
Problems not related to Startup files:
-Conflict Catcher relies upon a solid, working system. If you are experiencing problems with functions such as finding or copying files, "?" at startup, sad Macs, not recognizing floppy disks when inserted, etc., then you probably need to reinstall your system first. For this type of problem we recommend calling 1-800-SOS-APPL for assistance.
-If your problem is hardware related, i.e. RAM, disk drive, or insufficient memory, Conflict Catcher will not be able to help you. You may be able to run a conflict test, however Conflict Catcher will tell you if your problem is not related to your startup files.
Serial Port Arbitrator
Serial Port Arbitrator is known to be incompatible with SerialDMA, included in Apple's Printing Update 7.5.2. Conflict Catcher v3.0.4 recognizes this extension.
Features you don't want to overlook:
At startup time you can direct Conflict Catcher to restart, shutdown, pause, or stop loading startup files. Here are the keys to hold down at startup time (after Conflict Catcher has loaded):
Command-R Restarts the computer
Command-S Shuts down the computer
Command-P Pauses the startup process
Command-period Stops loading startup files and proceeds directly to the Finder
tab Pauses the startup process after all the startup files have loaded allowing you to view all the startup file icons.
RAM Doubler and Conflict Tests:
If you are running RAM Doubler we recommend that you lock on the RAM Doubler extension to ensure that conflict tests work properly. See Locking On Startup Files on page 39 of the manual.
Viewing by Load Order:
Display by load order is now more precise in representing the true load order. Startup files that load before Conflict Catcher appear above a gray line in the order that they load. Startup files that force Conflict Catcher to restart your Macintosh at startup time are marked with a bullet "•" in the second column. These startup files can appear anywhere in Conflict Catcher's listing when viewing by load order.
Power Macintosh PCI Support:
Supports new startup file type "ndrv" for native drivers, including the file "Graphics Accelerator". System Report supports large volumes.
Startup File Magnification:
Users can now add their own file descriptions to individual startup files by magnifying a startup file and clicking anywhere in the file description window. Network administrators can copy the file "Conflict Catcher Descriptions" to Conflict Catcher's install disk for automatic installation.
Typing the name of a startup file while in Conflict Catcher's main window will automatically magnify the file.
When a startup file is magnified, the up/down arrows select the next/previous file in the listing.
Pressing "Tab" alphabetically cycles through the magnified startup files.
Pressing "Command-Return" or "Command-Enter" toggles magnified startup files on/off.
Magnify mode now shows the list of links which contain the selected startup file.
Magnify mode also shows the Creation and Modification dates of the startup file.
Version changes:
3.0.4:
- Recognizes Serial Port Arbitrator which is known to be incompatible with the SerialDMA extension. SerialDMA is included in Apple's Printing Update 7.5.2, and later versions of System Software.
3.0.3:
- Notices the creation of overlapping grouped links, and notifies user.
- Scans the System file when scanning for damaged startup files.
- Recognizes extensions that do not contain INIT code.
- Fixed cosmetic problem when viewing by load order.

- Added to the magnify window, a list of any links containing the file being viewed.
- Caused all files in the Fonts folder to be displayed in the startup files list.
- Automatically forced to restart when user Edits Types.
- Made controls disabled in black and white mode draw disabled.
- Added "•" in the second column, to mark items that force a restart.
- Added Creation and Modification dates to the magnify view.
- Changed "Date Added" to "Installed" in the magnify view.
- Fixed incompatibility with Wacom Tablets & Dabbler.
- Fixed a variety of minor bugs.
3.0.1:
- The icon was not being placed correctly when restarting from within the cdev at
startup.
- Updated the Date Installed when a file with a later creation date is installed.
- Fixed problem when deleting preferences and restarting without opening CC3.
- Fixed problem with starting a Conflict Test from a startup interruption.
- Made Show Icon Names the default.
